Highway Bound
by John Michael Ray

Foot patrol, locked and loaded
Along Afghani country sides
The moon brings out a depth of red
Crimson flowers, those who’ve died
Two soldiers waging different wars
Though neither fight on equal ground
It’s Taliban and poppy rule
Another hero, highway bound

Give me one good reason
Why we still fight the fight
I’ll give you billions more
We just don’t have the might
This war with the poppy
Getting so out of hand
You’ll never cut supply
Until you cut demand

Air patrol, armed and ready
Along Colombian mountain sides
Bogota, Cali, Medellin
Protect their leaf as worlds collide
Two kingpins fighting for control
To rule narcotic underground
It’s drug cartel and powder rule
Another hero, highway bound

Give me one good reason
Why we still fight the fight
I’ll give you billions more
We just don’t have the might
This war with the powder
Getting so out of hand
You’ll never cut supply
Until you cut demand

Squad patrol, protect and serve
Along our city’s streets
Grow-op houses, bootleg labs
Border on the indiscrete
Two gangs both fighting for their turf
Neither willing to give up ground
It’s home grown reefer, crystal rule
Another hero, highway bound

Give me one good reason
Why we still fight the fight
I’ll give you billions more
We just don’t have the might
This war with the seed
Getting so out of hand
You’ll never cut supply
Until you cut demand
