Through These Irish Eyes
by John Michael Ray

Who are you to sit in judgement
Of anything I do
The stones you cast from your glass houses
Will all return to you
Who are you to question me
Of anything I’ve said
The second coming you’ve anointed
Is martyrdom instead
Who are you to raise your eye brows
To ways I may react
The deal that you made with your devil
Will never be paid back
Who are you to criticize me
I’ve only just begun
The miles walked within my shoes
While others chose to run

You don’t know about my life
Until you’ve lived it
Through these Irish eyes
You don’t know the dreams inside
Until you dream them
Through these Irish eyes
You don’t know the tears I’ve cried
Until you cry them
Through these Irish eyes
You don’t know the darker side
Until you’ve seen it
Through these Irish eyes

Who in the hell do you think you are
To lay your guilt on me
Sentencing like judge and jury
Crucifying me
Where in the hell do you get off
With that personal attack
The cold steel blade of your opinion
Embedded in my back
Why in the hell are you involved
With a fight not even yours
It would seem the path to your salvation
Has double bolted doors
What in the hell do you want from me
After all is said and done
The messiah chosen to deliver
Is not your sacred one

You don’t know about my life
Until you’ve lived it
Through these Irish eyes
You don’t know the dreams inside
Until you dream them
Through these Irish eyes
You don’t know the tears I’ve cried
Until you cry them
Through these Irish eyes
You don’t know the darker side
Until you’ve seen it
Through these Irish eyes

You don’t know how hope has died
Until you mourn it
Through these Irish eyes
You don’t know the broken pride
Until you heal it
Through these Irish eyes
You don’t know how truth has lied
Until you believe it
Through these Irish eyes
You don’t know what lies inside
Until you feel it
Through these Irish eyes
